This was my first serious foray into trying to make money online. Well, I don't mind telling you I made NO MONEY at all online in those first few months. Everyone had been telling me what a wonderful money making opportunity affiliate programs were but I could not see it. My first few months had added a big fat $0 to my online bank balance. So where did I go wrong? The first and by far the biggest mistake I made was what I initially did - I joined a couple of dozen programs. How was I going to spend enough time to market each of these programs? Well, the fact is there was not enough time and I didn't end up doing a very good job of marketing any of them. As well as my online business, I still had plenty of work to do in the offline world. How was I going to make it online? TIP So how did I get out of this trap? How did I turn it around? How did I start making money? The first thing I did was cancel my account with most of the affiliate programs I had joined. That was the hardest decision I had to make. I had to be ruthless. It is very tough to give up on affiliate programs you have joined but it must be done. I then decided that I WAS going to make money with these damn affiliate programs. I was left with just a few really good money making programs and put all my efforts into marketing those programs online individually. (BTW, I did all my marketing online and most of it did not cost me a cent!) I'm not going to tell you it was an overnight success because it wasn't. But what happened was I started making sales and earning money each month. My checks slowly got larger. Now I really was making money with affiliate programs. It was my own little online home business. And today, this online business slowly grows larger each month. If I can provide you with some of the tools and techniques that I have learned to be successful with affiliate programs then I would have done my job. You see, one of the saddest statistics is that about 80% to 90% of all affiliates make little or no money from affiliate programs. That's because of a number of fundamental mistakes they make.
